Marbles and Bullets - A filmmakers Reflection (Part 2)

PART 2

Since completing Principal Photography in December of 2018, Marbles and Bullets has been clawing its way through post-production while being smothered by political and cultural anarchy, violence a biological and psychological pandemic, environmental collapse, and social division like never before. All events that make Marbles and Bullets more relevant than we could ever imagine and an overwhelmingly blinding reflection of this moment in time. As our country continues to inch toward another Civil War like no other time in history other than the historical time period of Marbles and Bullets, above all the heightened race-relations theme is calling out to audiences around the world.

Why me? Why Marbles and Bullets? More often than not, throughout my years of writing, what I write chooses me. I call it cosmic writing. I try my best to stay open to the voices of my time and place and the powers of our universe. A sense of being that was passed on to me by my Mother a teacher who was always trying to stay at one with the fascination of life and the world and all that it has to offer. This was the core of our relationship, the pursuit of the total human experience and to live a life of adventure that included culture, nature, historical and universal challenges, and awakenings that has led me to live in a multicultural home and continue to live a life of creative diversity.

Ultimately making movies, especially movies that go beyond entertainment are a life force all unto their own. And classic cinema is like a living, breathing book that magically consumes our imaginations beyond the printed word with illuminated moving images that are a reflection of life itself. Meaningful movies are time-traveling magical moments of life that are like the fabric of our emotions and existence shaped by our reality and endless creative curiosity with the known and unknown. The relevance of Marbles and Bullets is as pure and poignant as Walt Whitman’s, Leaves of Grass.

It is a cinematic poem about misconceptions of the human experience and the ongoing cycle of life and all its natural flaws. And how each of us is a part of the cycle of life and what we make of our moment in time that ultimately becomes a part of the rebirth process in human nature. Will we live in harmony during our time in life and pass the glory of an enlightened and illuminated soul onto the next cycle of life, or try and pull the next moment in time down into the darkness of the human experience? What link in what chain of life will we be? Will we dance with our human DNA or defy our common bond? Will we be one with our universe or try and become an altruistic stone that will stand against our fragile existence and humanity?
